Hi,
ich bin Julia und ich bin seit Oktober 2023 für 10 Monate im Rahmen eines weltwärts Freiwilligendienstes in Gambia. Meine Entsendeorganisation ist dabei VolNet (Volunteering Network e.V.). Aber was mache ich genau in Gambia?
Meine Arbeit
Ich absolviere meinen Freiwilligendienst in einer NGO “The Girls Agenda” in Brikama. Die NGO befasst sich mit sensible Themen, wie geschlechterspezifische Gewalt, die Gewalt gegen Mädchen und Frauen, die Verstümmelung und Beschneidung von Frauen (die in Gambia noch weit verbreitet ist²), Menstruation, Kinderarbeit und Kinderehen sowie Leadership und Mentoring.
Meine Aufgaben sind vielfältig und beinhalten die Moderation und Vorbereitung von Workshops meist im Rahmen der sogenannten Youth Safe Spaces (mehr Informationen dazu können in diesem Blogeintrag gefunden werden), das Schreiben von Reports und Fördermittelanträge, das Netzwerken innerhalb von “The Girls Agenda”, aber auch mit anderen Organisationen hier in Gambia sowie Social-Media-Arbeit und einiges mehr.
leben in meiner gastfamilie
Ich lebe während meines Freiwilligendienstes in einer Gastfamilie. So habe ich die Möglichkeit das Leben in Gambia direkt und in Mitten der Gesellschaft zu erleben.
Jeden Tag lerne ich Neues und kann meine persönliche Entwicklung als Mensch, aber auch in spezifischen Bereichen, wie beispielsweise Leadership beobachten. In meinem Blog teile ich meine Einblicke und Erfahrungen. Kontaktiert mich gerne bei Fragen oder Anregungen für einen Beitrag.

Hi,
my name is Julia since October 2023 I spend 10 months in The Gambia voluntaring as a part of a weltwärts development volunteer service. I am working with the German organization VolNet (Volunteering Network e.V.). More information regarding weltwärts can be found here: Volunteers – weltwaerts [EN].
But what am I doing in The Gambia?
my work
I do my development volunteer ervice in a NGO “The Girls Agenda” in Brikama. The NGO deals with sensitive topics such as gender based violence, violence against girls and women, Female genital mutilation and circumcision (which is still widely spread in The Gambia²), Menstruation, Child labour and Child marriage as well as leadership und mentoring.
My areas of work are manysided and indlude the moeration and preparation of workshops, mostly our so-called Youth Safe Spaces (more information can be found in this blog entry), writing reports and funding requests, networking within “The Girls’ Agenda” and other organizations here in The Gambia as well as social media and other tasks.
Life in my host family
In the 10 months of my volunteer service I am living in a host family. This brings the opportunity to experience life directly within the Gambian society.
Every day I learn somethin new and notice my personal development as a person but also in specific areas such as leadership. In my blog I am sharing my personal experiences and give insights into my life here in The Gambia. Pleae reach out if you have any questions or inspirations for a post.
